Summoners

An ancient tribe of people with strong spiritual powers, an whose numbers are quickly waning.

People with the ability to call upon the powers of "Phantom Beasts" or "Ediolons" from the "Phantom Realm" are known as summoners. People with these abilities are part of an ancient race known as the Tribe of Summoners, over the centuries their bloodlines have thinned and so have their collective powers. While descendants of the tribe live all over throughout the world, a small enclave of pure-blood summoners still remain in the valley of mist, secluded in the mountains between Baron, Damcyan, and Troia. This area is said to be in the closest "alignment" to the ley-lines of the spiritual Phantom Realm. While these summoners are reclusive and disdain world political affairs, there is a small village in the mountain pass between Baron and Damcayn simply known as the Village of Mist. Here the summoners do trade with the traveling caravans and provide respite for weary travelers plying the routes between the two kingdoms.

Those of the tribe who live in the Mist Valley have continued to maintain the ancient bloodlines by marrying within only those who have summoner blood, however time and simple mathematical certainty has dwindled the number of these combinations of the few who remain, thus the continuation of these bloodlines is quite doubtful.

While all who carry summoner blood have the innate ability to summon Ediolons, with proper training, in general young females are the most capable. To summon an Ediolon, the Ediolon must first test the summoner to prove that she or he is pure of mind and heart. Once satisfied the Ediolon agrees to serve the summoner when the summoner calls upon their help.

Because of their keen relationship with the spirtual aether, summoners are naturals at the other magicks, and often know and study the arcane spells of both black and white magick.
