Cid's Biography

The master airship engineer who loves the freedom of flight.

The idea of the airship, or a machine capable of powered flight, had been a dream of many throughout the ages. This concept had captivated the imagination of Cid, an engineer and master of machinery from the Kingdom of Baron. Cid was able to take his theories of powered flight to a new level upon the discovery of ancient technical documents which were brought to Baron. Once Cid decoded the knowledge of the ancients he was able to develop the first Airship.

Most technologies in Baron are used (and exploited) for military use, the Airship was no exception. While Cid's purpose was to realize the freedom of flight, the King and military leaders of Baron saw the strategic value of the invention. Thus they began plans to replace their sea-based naval power with air-based naval power. Cid reluctantly agreed to cooperate, only if he could be completely in charge of maintenance and construction of the fleet, to be called the "Red Wings". Cid's passion to perfect his invention has led him to create numerous improved versions of the original airship. He is currently working on his most advanced design which he calls "Enterprise"

Though Cid spends most of his time tinkering away in his workshop he also maintains a large estate in Baron City. Unfortunately Cid's wife has passed away leaving him to raise their only daughter. Despite this, Cid is an amiable, yet somewhat boisterous middle-aged man. Since Cid spends so much time at the castle, as children, Cecil, Cain, and Rosa often visited Cid in his workshop. The youngsters came to see Cid as something of an "uncle", likewise Cid took them in like family especially Cecil. To this day Cid still tends to look after them, and they enjoy spending time with him. Recently Cid was particularly pleased that Cecil was to become the commander of the Red Wings, it did his heart good to know that a man of honor and principle was overseeing their use. However Cid has become concerned over the King's recent desire for him to quickly complete his newest airship design.

In the beginning of the game we meet Cid only briefly, and he becomes even more troubled over the fact that Cecil has been stripped of his command of Cid's "babies", and that the King would order the Red Wings to "pillage" Mysidia. Cid will later join Cecil and become a valuable ally, especially for the care of his magnificent creations.

Airship Engineers of Baron

Skilled craftsmen who care for the airship fleets of Baron.

After the Baron Military instituted the Red Wings Airship Brigade, it was obvious that someone would need to care for these complex machines. Cid, the inventor of the craft, was given charge of this unit, mostly upon his insisting that it be so. Cid developed and trained a skilled crew of craftsmen whom he could trust to work on and repair the airship fleet. Most of these craftsmen - engineers - choose such hard work because of their love for their work.

The Skill of the Engineers and Their Tools

Should an engineer come under attack, his deductive reasoning and tools at hand can become effective weapons.

The Scan Skill (also known as "Peep")

Some people are skilled at visually identifying and analyzing all types of things, especially Engineers who train and specialize in this kind of work. In the specific case of a highly skilled man such as Cid, he can determine weak points of many foes and allies just from deductive reasoning and insightful observation. Those with this skill can be asked to analyze an enemy when confronted, and the skilled person can report their findings to the party to enable a much more sound strategy for success.

Tools

To most people a hammer is used to pound nails or other things, however in the hands of Cid or another engineer it can become an effective weapon, especially against machines. An engineer such as Cid can easily and quickly determine the most effective manner in which to destroy or damage a machine with the simple use of the hammer.
